There’s nothing like seeing your motorcycle captured mid-ride — leaned into a corner, the road stretching behind you, and that perfect moment frozen in time. At BayMotoPhoto, we specialize in roadside motorcycle photography across the Bay Area, including Highway 84 near Alice’s Restaurant, Highway 9, and Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35).
If you’ve ever ridden through one of our setups, you know we take thousands of photos every weekend. But what makes a shot truly stand out? Here are our best tips for getting the perfect roadside motorcycle photo.
When riding with a group, leave a little distance between bikes. Spacing out gives us time to photograph each rider individually and ensures your bike isn’t hidden behind your buddy’s. It also means you’ll get multiple clean shots of yourself instead of one crowded frame.
Your motorcycle is the star of the photo. A quick wash or wipe-down before the ride makes chrome sparkle and paint colors pop in the sun. Even small details — like polished wheels or a clean windscreen — stand out in the final photo.
Some riders love to wave, throw a peace sign, or flash a big smile. Others prefer to just ride naturally and let the bike do the talking. Either way, the photo will look great. Don’t be afraid to show a little personality — it makes your shot memorable.
A faster pass doesn’t always mean a better photo. What looks best is lean angle and approach through the corner. You don’t need high speed to achieve this — just a smooth line, body lean, and confidence on the bike. We’ll capture the rest.
We post “Photographer Ahead” signs so you know when we’re set up, but your focus should always be on the road. Don’t get distracted trying to pose — ride naturally and stay in control. The safest rides always lead to the best photos.
Want more options? Loop back and ride through again. Each pass gives you new angles, different lighting, and another chance to nail that perfect shot.
⚠️ Pro tip: When turning around, do so carefully and be mindful of traffic. Safety always comes first.
Your helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots all show up in photos. Bright colors or custom gear can make you stand out, but even classic black leathers look great if they match your bike’s personality. Think of it as your riding “outfit” for the camera.
Lighting makes all the difference in photography. Earlier in the day is better, since the sun is softer and less harsh on both riders and bikes. At BayMotoPhoto, we typically shoot until 2pm to avoid the harshest light of the afternoon. Golden hour can be beautiful, but for roadside shoots, morning light is king.
The best photos come when riders are just enjoying themselves. Don’t overthink it. Smile, lean into the corner, and let the ride do the work — we’ll handle the photography.
Every weekend from mid-February to mid-November, we’re set up on some of the Bay Area’s most iconic riding routes:
